President Biden More Popular in Colorado than Rep. Lauren Boebert, New Poll Shows

In a recent survey, President Joe Biden emerged as more popular in Colorado than Rep. Lauren Boebert.

According to the 2023 Colorado Political Climate Survey, 42 percent of Coloradans approved of Biden's job as president, while only 29 percent approved of Boebert's handling of her congressional seat.

Although Biden appeared to have a higher approval rating, a significant number of Coloradans remained undecided about Boebert. One-quarter of residents said they were "not sure" about the congresswoman, while only 7 percent expressed the same uncertainty about the president.

Boebert, who recently switched races to run in the more conservative 4th congressional district, faces a challenging path to victory.

A recent straw poll of 100 Republicans in her new district placed her fifth in the crowded GOP primary, indicating that securing the nomination may not be an easy task for the two-term “seat shopping” congresswoman.

A lower approval rating than President Biden's is a concerning sign for any politician. Biden's approval rating in his third year in office was the second worst among U.S. presidents, according to a Gallup poll released last week.

Less than 40 percent of Americans approved of his presidency, with only Jimmy Carter receiving lower approval ratings during his third year. Biden also experienced personal lows of 37 percent job approval in April, October, and November 2023, suggesting a challenging re-election campaign ahead.

While Boebert’s overall approval rate stood at 29 percent, she performed well among Republicans, with nearly six in 10 GOP voters expressing approval. This is a promising sign for her team, considering that Colorado's 4th district leans strongly conservative, according to the Cook Political Report's 2022 index.

On the other hand, Boebert struggled to gain support from Democrats and independents, with only 20 percent and 16 percent approving of her job, respectively. It is important to note that Colorado, including the 4th Congressional district, has a significant proportion of Christian independent voters, who have not forgotten the recent groping incident at a family musical in Denver.
