New Attack on Coloradan’s Second Amendment Rights, Go After Legal Businesses Selling Firearms

Written by: T. Cohen

A new bill making its way through the Colorado legislature could have dire consequences for firearms dealers and gun owners. House Bill 24-1353, titled "Firearms dealer requirements and permit," aims to impose additional burdensome regulations and expenses on businesses legally selling firearms.

Under this proposed bill, gun store owners would be required to register with the state and obtain additional permits to sell firearms in Colorado.

The cost of this new permit would be $400, adding an unnecessary financial strain on many small mom and pop businesses, who are already paying for other expensive state and federal permits.

Proponents of the Second Amendment argue that this is a deliberate attempt to make it harder and more expensive for law-abiding citizens to exercise their constitutional rights.

Supporters of the bill claim that it is necessary to provide firearm dealers with the "proper tools" to combat gun violence. However, critics argue that this is merely a guise for imposing further government control and hindering the lawful sale of firearms.

The state would also have the authority to conduct additional random inspections of registered gun stores, duplicating the oversight already carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), which already requires a license.

The overreach doesn't stop there. Democrats behind the bill also seek to dictate store hours for businesses legally selling firearms, even though these businesses have already complied with all state and federal laws. This intrusion into the operations of private businesses is a clear infringement on the rights of business owners and an unnecessary burden on the free market.

Critics of the bill point out that Colorado has become a hotbed for anti-gun legislation, with the state's liberal extreme Democrats dominating the legislature. This assault on gun owners' rights is unprecedented and sets a dangerous precedent for other states to follow suit.

House Bill 24-1353 is just one of several proposed gun control measures currently being considered in the Colorado government, further indicating a concerted effort to undermine the Second Amendment.

As this bill progresses through the legislature, it is crucial for proponents of the Second Amendment to remain vigilant and voice their concerns. The right to bear arms is a fundamental aspect of American freedom, and any attempt to infringe upon it should be met with strong opposition.
